Spicy Peanut Sauce

3 cloves garlic, minced
1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
1 tablespoon canola oil
1 tablespoon tomato paste
3 tablespoons creamy natural peanut butter
3 tablespoons hoisin sauce
1/2 teaspoon sugar
1/2 cup water

chef's knife
cutting board
garlic press
measuring spoons
liquid measuring cup
small saucepot
mixing spoon
small whisk

1. Heat a small saucepot over medium heat. Add oil and let heat.
2. Add garlic and red pepper flakes. Cook, stirring constantly, until garlic is golden.
3. Add remaining ingredients, one at a time, whisking each one until thoroughly incorporated.
4. Bring sauce to a boil.
5. Reduce heat to low. Cook, whisking constantly, until sauce is thickened, about 1 minute.
